Claire Waxman is London’s first Victims Commissioner, working to improve the experience of victims of crime in the city. She brings a wealth of personal insight and expertise to the role, having been the victim of a sustained stalking campaign during which time she founded campaign group Voice4Victims to successfully fight for Government commitments to improve legislation and support for victims. Claire works with victims, central government, the police, Crown Prosecution Service and the Ministry of Justice to ensure victims’ voices are heard and to develop ways to improve their experiences of the criminal justice system and their ability to recover.

  • Outlining the London victims’ strategy: Making sure agencies meet their statutory responsibilities towards victims, tackling discriminatory behaviour that can create barriers to justice and support and putting specialist training in place
  • Working with local police services, local authorities and community groups to build citywide support for victims
  • Ensuring that there are clear and accessible support service pathways for victims and communities that cater to specific challenges relating to local conditions
  • Embedding victims’ rights in community safety provisions: Providing victim organisation representation when designing community safety services
